Course Description: In this joyful, hands-on class, students will explore the wonderful world of animals while discovering what the Bible teaches about God as our Creator and loving Father. Each week, we will learn about a different animal — from farm friends and forest creatures to ocean animals and animals found in Bible stories — and connect what we learn to simple Biblical truths and character lessons.

Through interactive storytelling, movement activities, crafts, simple science exploration, and memory verses, children will begin to understand that “God saw that it was good” (Genesis 1:25). We will explore habitats, basic animal traits, and fun facts while also learning about qualities like courage (lion), trust (sheep), hard work (ant), and obedience (Jonah and the great fish).

We will expand our work with unknown variables. Basic geometry will be incorporated into the situational problems. Arithmetic understanding and skills will continue to be developed and honed within this framework.

Prerequisites: Completion of Introduction to Mathematical Analysis

Art Explorers

Course Description: In this course, students will be encouraged in their creativity and artistic advancements through numerous art projects found within Abeka's Art Projects 3, 5th ed. This work text includes seasonal, collaborative, and keepsake projects that help students have a chance to develop their creative sides. Students will develop in art techniques while learning about water coloring, using charcoal, sculpting, stitching, drawing, painting, and using colored pencils.

Homework: Occasionally finishing a project at home, if class time runs short

 

Learning and Perfecting Cursive Writing and Grade-level Spelling

Course Description: In Zoology 3 we will explore the fascinating world of land animals. We will dive into learning about their behaviors, habitats, physical traits and connections to humans and the environment. This is a core science curriculum; we will work thorough the 14 modules over the course of the year. Students will work to connect the design seen in these incredible creatures to the Creator. We will use the note booking journal that accompanies the text.

Course Description: In this course, we will take a look at the timeline of the Bible, beginning with Genesis and creation and going through the early Church, Church Age, and Return of Jesus. Along with other Bible study strategies, we will cover the importance of reading verses in context, using Bible maps, and determining if a passage of scripture is descriptive or prescriptive. We will also study the six main genres found in scripture and practice identifying them and practicing how to read and glean from them. We will be using https://foundationworldview.com 's How to Study the Bible video class to help guide our study and discussions.

IEW: Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales

Course Description: In this course, we will use the IEW style of writing to teach students the proper mechanics, structure, and style to write well written papers. This class will explore various stories using fables, myths, and fairy tales.

Prerequisites: Students must know how to read, write, and take notes. Typing skills are not mandatory, but will be helpful. We will read passages, take notes, and draft reports weekly.

Homework: Weekly assignments will include finishing unfinished class assignments and write a report weekly. These reports will vary in length. Additional activities to practice the skills and vocabulary words will be worked on.

 

New Hampshire History

Course Description: In this course, we will be taking a look at our wonderful state of New Hampshire. We will be working through the online resource, Moose on the Loose (https://moose.nhhistory.org), as well as the book New Hampshire, by Terry Miller Shannon.

Geography South

Course Description: Using Legends and Leagues South, a Veritas Curriculum, students will learn world geography. This South program includes Africa and the Middle East. Geography will be learned through characters and stories, songs to assist with memorization, comprehension worksheets and maps. Culture will be emphasized through hands-on projects, themed snacks and more. This is a hands on class, students will be asked to read out loud, identify countries on maps and prepare oral presentations.

* Priority signups will be given to those who have taken Geography West.

Homework: Finish class work ( 1 hr or less) and listen to geography songs daily. Students will be asked to do 1-2 presentations throughout the year to include a food dish to share.

Mathematical Analysis for Middle School

Course Description: Students will continue to develop the ability to apply their current mathematical skill level to real life objectives and tasks. Course Description: We will learn the stylistic writing approach of IEW using the well-known and enchanting books of Narnia. We will reference the first 3 novels of the Chronicles of Narnia to work through 30 writing lessons.

Prerequisites: This class uses the IEW approach to writing. The teachings and style used are presented in a way that can be taught to anyone looking to improve their note taking and writing skills. This class may include varying levels of familiarity of the IEW program. Students will need to read the first three novels of The Chronicles of Narnia: ( The Magician's Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy) prior to the start of class. This will allow the student to successfully complete the various lessons throughout the course.

 

Homework: Each week the students will be expected to complete the activities included in each lessons, practice the vocabulary words for the lesson, and write a final draft of their report.

Journey Through Newbery Classics, Part 2

Course Description: In this engaging literature class, students will explore timeless novels that have earned the prestigious Newbery Award for excellence in children's literature. Through reading and discussion of classic Newbery titles-such as Sounder, Gathering of Days, and Number the Stars-students will develop strong reading comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills. The course also emphasizes vocabulary development, theme analysis, and character study. Students will participate in thoughtful discussions, respond to literature through journals, author studies, short essays, and complete creative projects that connect the books to historical context and real-world issues. By the end of the class, students will gain a deeper appreciation for quality literature, build confidence as readers, and sharpen the skills needed for middle school and beyond. This is an academically rigorous course aimed at preparing students for more intense literature courses in the future. Homework is mandatory, and will be graded. It is imperative that students come to class prepared, and ready to participate.

Prerequisites: Student needs to have taken previous class or have spoken to me about exceptions.

Introduction to Latin

Tips and Tricks for Professional Model Builders

Grades: 9-12

Supplies Needed: Supplies needed: Occasionally there will be some basic “craft style” supplies that will be needed as the class progresses. Most of these can be picked up inexpensively at a Hobby Lobby, Walmart, or Home Depot.

Course Description: Course Description: In this class students will learn techniques for building and aging models. Several techniques will be taught for aging wood, peeling paint, creating rust and rot. The techniques will be applied to wood, hydrocal (plaster), metal, and plastic. The first portion of the year will focus only on techniques. The second half of the year will focus on building a diorama of a small building, board by board. The coarse will not focus on speed, but rather on accuracy.

Each student will receive:
- A 3-ring notebook to keep track of reference material and take notes
- copy of a “the weathering magazine”. The students will receive different issues so they can share with each other.

- Some basic tools such as a pen knife, wire brush, paint brushes, etc…
- An O-scale (1:64) kit that is assembled board-by-board. The kit also includes detail parts which may be metal, resin, or 3-D printed. This kit will be produced by Sierra West Scale Models specifically made for this class. (https://www.sierrawestscalemodels.com)

Homework: Homework: This class will have weekly homework. Homework will take about an hour to complete. Homework may include watching a video (access to YouTube will be needed) to be discussed in class. Homework will be assigned by email so that you can just click any links to videos right from the email. Students will be required to create and maintain a notebook of reference material. Student will be assigned to locate weathering in the real world (such as a rusty pipe), photograph it, print it out, and place it in the notebook.

 

Drawing

Course Description: The course will (1) introduce students to the landforms and climate of Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and the world’s oceans; (2) introduce cartography / map reading concepts; and (3) require students to approach geography from an analytical perspective by examining the causal relationships between the physical characteristics of our world and major developments in history and current events.

American Literature for Credit

Grades: 9-12

Course Description: This high school American Literature course surveys major works that have shaped the literary and cultural history of the United States. Students will study a range of genres-including novels, short stories, essays, poetry, and speeches-representing diverse voices and historical periods. Through these texts, students examine central American themes such as identity, freedom, responsibility, justice, resilience, and the pursuit of the American Dream.
The course emphasizes careful, sustained and repeated reading, literary analysis, and academic writing. Students analyze the author's craft, symbolism, tone, and structure while developing skills in critical thinking, discussion, and evidence based writing. Class activities include Socratic discussions, analytical and argumentative essays, presentations, and projects that connect literature to its historical and cultural context.
By the end of the course, students will be able to thoroughly analyze complex texts, write clear and well-supported essays, and engage in meaningful discussions about American literature-preparing them for college-level reading, writing , and civic understanding.

 

Prerequisites: Students seeking a class for high school English credit.

Homework: 6-7 hours of out of class homework per week depending on reading and writing speed. There will be assigned summer reading and there will be one additional week of homework over Christmas break.

Advanced Embroidery and Sewing Projects

Grades: 9-12

Course Description: In this hands-on embroidery and sewing project, students will create a traditional felt Christmas Stocking using a Bucilla Stocking kit. This project introduces students to advanced embroidery and hand sewing skills while guiding them through a complete, finished keepsake.
Students will learn how to read a pattern, transfer designs, use embroidery stitches such as stem, satin and blanket stitch. As the project progresses, they will assemble and sew the stocking pieces together, developing patience, precision, and attention to detail.
This project encourages creativity, fine motor skill development, and perseverance, while also giving students the satisfaction of completing a functional and decorative item they can treasure or gift.

High School Biology (Apologia)

Course Description: High school biology class; class time will emphasize lab exercises & explanations of material students cover in their textbooks. Emphasis on understanding and appreciating the world God has made, with a healthy understanding of how others view the world as well.

Homework: Readings from text/notebook, tests, lab reports....this is a high school credit course, so expect to work hard

 

Personal Finance

Course Description: This class will use Dave Ramsey's Foundations in Personal Finance course. Students will learn how to manage money in all areas and stages of our life while remembering what the Bible tells us about money and finances. Some areas we will explore are budgeting, investing, giving, saving, credit, debt, insurance, college costs, and so much more. This course will help your student understand how to successfully manage their finances and "win with money!" We will be using a curriculum that uses workbooks from an older edition that incorporates the Biblical connections. I will be sourcing these from e-bay for each student.

Apologia Chemistry Lab and Study Class

Course Description: This is a lab to accompany Apologia Chemistry. The schedule will follow VSA live Chemistry, although taking the live course is not required. Apologia also offers self paced videos for those interested in additional resources. In class work will primarily be experiments with some review of material as time allows. Course work including reading, note taking, and testing at home is required to participate in experiments.

Prerequisites: High School Biology

 

Homework: Keep up with Apologia Chemistry course plus 30-60 minutes per week average for lab reports.
